Uganda Lacrosse Association Names a New Head Coach and
General Manager
The Uganda Lacrosse Association is pleased to announce that
it has named Peter Ginnegar as its new Head Coach and Matt Holman it’s General
Manager for the 2018 World Games to be held in Israel next summer. Ginnegar who
served as an assistant coach for the Israel Lacrosse Association for the past 6
years, and was on the sidelines this past summer as an assistant coach with
Israel who won the silver medal at the 2016 European Lacrosse Championships in
Budapest. He also has served as the Head Coach for Barak Netanya LC in the
Israel Premier Lacrosse League, and guided the “Bolts” to the first ever IPLL
Championships in 2015.
Ginnegar, who has coached at every NCAA Division and MCLA
Division level, just completed his 40th season of collegiate coaching,
and currently serves as the Head Lacrosse Coach at the Claremont Colleges (MCLA
Div. I) in California since 2004. He has also had coaching stints at Cornell
University, Ohio State University, Mercyhurst University, as well as many
others such as the University of Mary Washington, Babson College, and the Univ.
of Southern California. He was named the USLIA national coach of the year in 2006.
He is a graduate of Queens College in NY, and was a three-sport varsity athlete
in Lacrosse, Ice Hockey and Soccer. He was inducted in the QC Hall of Fame in
2015.

“I would like to thank the Uganda Lacrosse Association for
the opportunity of a lifetime, and to be a part of the growth of the Uganda
National Lacrosse Team. I believe that we can develop Team Uganda into an
international force in the sport of Lacrosse. I hope that what we can
accomplish in Uganda, can help in the development of other up and coming
programs in Africa such as Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and South Africa. For the
sport to flourish not just in Uganda, but on the African continent, it is
imperative that we develop youth and school lacrosse programs as a means to
develop strong national team programs for both men and women. This sport has
taken me to some amazing places, and I am so very excited about starting this
next chapter”

What Matt has been able to accomplish as a promoter and as

Matt Holman brings a wealth of management and lacrosse
experience to the “Cranes”
Matt is the Founder and Executive Director of the East-West
Lacrosse Foundation and is the Director of Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse
Association (MCLA) National Championships, and the current President of the
Southwest Lacrosse Conference (MCLA). Originally from Summit, New Jersey, Matt
spent time at Syracuse University before moving to San Diego State University
where he earned his degree in Recreation System Management. As the founder of
the EMW Foundation, non-profit organization dedicated to hosting lacrosse
events which supports many causes such as the American Cancer Society. He is
also the creator of the Lax Coaches vs. Cancer Games.

Head Coach Pete Ginnegar on Matt Holman….“ I am thrilled
that Matt has accepted our offer to serve as our General Manager, he brings so
much knowledge and understanding about just how much time and energy it will
take in developing Team Uganda as we prepare for the 2018 World Championships
in Israel. Matt was the first guy I thought about to undertake this job, and we
are so blessed to have him with us on this journey”
Uganda Lacrosse, competed in its first world Championships
in 2014 in Denver, and quickly won over lacrosse fans with its enthusiasm for
the game and its athleticism. They defeated both Korea and Argentina in Denver.
Uganda Lacrosse will be hosting the East Africa 7’s
Tournament in August with teams from the Ireland, Israel, USA and England,
Kenya and Rwanda competing.
Searches are now underway to round out the remaining Team
Uganda coaching staff. Ginnegar explains,
“ It is not just about finding coaches who are great X and O
guys, but it’s about finding coaches who are great people and teachers, and
true ambassadors of the game, and understand that this is about the “big
picture”, which is developing something long lasting and self-sustaining for
the future of Uganda Lacrosse.
Ginnegar has also accepted an offer to return to Barak Netanya
LC, this summer to coach the “Bolts” in the 2017 Israel
Premier Lacrosse League before heading to Uganda for the East Africa 7’s
Tournament.
