Triple overtime goal completed a stunning comeback for Uganda on Kenyan soil in front of an impatient crowd. Kenya led 3-2 at the end of the first period, with Uganda never leading the rest of the way to the final goal of the sudden victory more than two hours later.


Kenya recorded a four-goal streak to close out the first half, including a 3-0 second half, and lead 6-2 at the break. After a long gap for both teams at the start of the third quarter, Uganda stepped into the game with the first goal from the frame to close the gap to three.

Kenya players dominatd the mind games until the last minute of the game.


Kenya responded with a goal in the frame, but Uganda had halved the score at the end of the period, leading just 7-5 going into the fourth. Uganda cut it to one with the first goal of the quarter, but Kenya took an 8-6 lead to revitalize the crowd.


Uganda enjoyed two penalties and clawed just over three minutes to play. Less than a minute later, Uganda equalised for the first time since the first quarter and finally sent the game to extra time.


After more than 25 minutes in real-time and two nerve-racking goalless overtime, Uganda finally pulled the deadlock and took a 9-8. victory.
